In our family, we don’t buy things just to buy them—we like to be intentional with our gifts and make the most of our spending. While there are plenty of reasons to enjoy candy, we prefer to fill our kids’ Easter eggs with surprises that encourage self-care, creativity, learning, and play (even if that means they don’t get a pillow case full). If you’re looking for fun, practical, and exciting non-candy Easter egg fillers, this list has something for every age—ensuring the joy lasts long after the hunt is over!
Babies (0-1 Year Olds)
The trick to filling Easter eggs for babies is choosing soft, foldable, or sensory-friendly items that won’t pose a choking hazard. Since babies explore with their mouths, it’s best to avoid anything too small and instead go for teething-friendly toys, soft textures, and useful gifts that parents will also appreciate! Buying larger eggs is also very helpful! Click the images to open links to each item!

Toddlers (1-3 Year Olds)
Toddlers love surprises, but they also love putting things in their mouths! The key here is to find items that are safe, engaging, and foldable or squishy enough to fit inside an egg without being a choking risk. Think sensory fun, practical gifts, and age-appropriate toys.

Big Kids (4-7 Year Olds)
At this age, kids are all about interactive fun! Small toys, creative supplies, and collectibles are a great way to make Easter eggs exciting without the sugar rush. You can even split a small LEGO set across multiple eggs for a fun surprise!
Any of the previously listed ideas could be adapted to this age group as well!

Tweens (8-12 Year Olds)
Tweens still love the fun of an egg hunt, but their interests shift toward self-care, stationery, and collectibles. Practical but exciting gifts—like lip balm, trendy school supplies, or self care items —are perfect for this age group.

Teens (13+ Year Olds)
Family traditions are something we, as parents, will never be ready to give up. That’s why I’ll always find ways to keep them alive and make sure our kids continue to enjoy them! Everyone loves a fun surprise, and the key is filling Easter eggs with things they actually want—like makeup, skincare, or accessories. At the end of the day, even teenagers who would rather be with their friends will appreciate knowing that their parents see their interests and care—whether they say it or not.

This approach keeps Easter fun while also making sure your money is spent on things your kids will actually use and enjoy!
